FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
6.10.2023 CHARLESTON SPEEDWAY: CHARLESTON, IL
An absolutely gorgeous evening at The Charleston Speedway. Mother nature has provided some outstanding weather to enjoy racing, both for fans and teams!
With multiple larger events happening in and around the area, we were excited to have 77 cars in 6 different divisions checked in. JAX MOBILE DETAIL boosted the Hornet payout to 5x the normal purse! 19 Hornets signed in to stake their claim for the $500 top prize. In addition to the extra purse money, Jax Mobile Detailing CEO, Chris Roe, added money to cover many Hornet drivers transponder fee, making this even more profitable for the drivers. Paul Lawhorn would set the pace in qualifying with a FAST time of 18.534 and collect his $50 bonus from Smyser Motorsports. Hornet Heat race action did NOT disappoint, Heat 2 saw a back and forth, door to door battle between 58W Danny White and 41 Jaekob Durbin that would end up with Danny White the Victor by a narrow margin of 0.054 seconds! With Heat races in the books, it was time for the highly anticipated 3 WIDE start from a standing position. Jax Mobile Detailing pace truck paced the field for a couple of laps before bringing them to a stand still on the front stretch where Chris Roe would drop the official green flag and start THE SWARM! Paul Lawhorn, in the 14P, jumped out to an early lead and appeared to be the car to beat as he would lead 16 of the 25 laps. However, Lawhorn was passed by the 2J of Josh Callahan on lap 17. Lawhorn would succumb to mechanical failure and his race would end on lap 20. Josh Callahan, although challenged for the lead, never gave it up and became the WINNER of the Inaugural SWARM, collecting his $500 Pay Day! Jaekob Durbin was 2nd while Jimmy Dutlinger rallied from his 8th starting position to finish 3rd. Without question, the Hard Charger award would go to Dusten Galbreath for his run from 18th starting place to his 7th finishing position. Dusten collected an extra $50 thanks to Stark’s Auto in Charleston, IL. The Hard Luck Award to the car that completed all 25 laps, was awarded to James Trivitt. He has the hardest luck, but was still running at the end and collected $50 bonus from David Montz!
In our Limited Late Model division, the youngster, Chase Wilson would set fast time and go onto win his FIRST heat race! Always exciting to be a part of a drivers FIRST win, those are special and will always be a part of their career. Congratulations Chase!

Here is the run down of all heat race winners:
DIRTcar Modified #63 Dustin King and #21D Danny Schwartz.
DIRTcar Pro Modified #2 Brayden Doyle and #23OG Bryce Farr.
DIRTcar Street Stock #99K Jerrad Krick.
DIRTcar Factory Stock #90 Lee Joseph Hall.
Limited Late Model #16 Chase Wilson.
DIRTcar Hornets #14P Paul Lawhorn and #58W Danny White Jr.
With all the heat races done, it was time for a short break and some track work right before FEATURE TIME! DIRTcar Modified feature hit the track at 8:27pm and it was GO time. Dustin King in the #63 would be the dominant force in Modified as he set fast time with a 14.473 lap time, would lead every lap of his heat race, and go on to do the same in the feature. There were movers and shakers in the Modified field with Ed Kuhn going 14th to 5th, Rob Fuqua going 10th to 4th, and Denny Schwartz going 6th to 3rd, but none of them were able to challenge King for the lead. King led every lap on a very challenging race track to claim the victory.
Without a doubt, Saturday’s race track surface was very challenging, but the talent of the drivers on hand put on some VERY good races. Pro Modified saw a 3 way race for the lead for the closing laps of it’s race with Deece Schwartz coming out the winner over Brayden Doyle and Gabe Menser. DIRTcar Street Stock had an outstanding feature race as well, with a tight 3way battle for the lead between Megan Erwin, Jerrad Krick and Jesse Simmons. Krick would take the checkered FIRST over second place Jesse Simmons, while Erwin would fall victim to LF suspension damage allowing Nick Miller to capture 3rd and round out the podium! In the DIRTcar Factory Stock race, #90, Lee Joseph Hall would claim the race win over the X of randy Smyser after they battled wheel to wheel and door to door for 15 laps. Despite the track conditions being less than favorable, the racing was PHENOMINAL! After their feature wins, Lee Joseph Hall and Jerrad Krick being family members, took time to share a picture and the excitement of the victory with the family patriarch, Grandpa Joe Buyno. Sharing this moment in the grandstands with their hero was very awesome to witness and we were happy to be a part of it! The night concluded with the final checkered flag falling at 10:15pm. Our staff are doing an awesome job, week in and week out, to provide a great experience for the drivers, teams and fans alike. Providing great, organized, quality entertainment that allows people to enjoy and return to their homes at a respectable hour.
On tap for next week will be our Father’s Day Special. We will have a special gift for the first 50 Fathers in the pit area, as well as a special gift for the first 50 Fathers in the grandstand gate. We will have all 6 Divisions, as well as the Performance Bodies KidModz!
