Carmichael, Jr. Wins Winged Late Model Feature On Last Lap Pass

It was a beautiful night for racing at the Charleston Speedway on Saturday night. 58 drivers were in attendance at the track.

The Winged Late Models put on a show in their feature event. Mike Staggs jumped out to an early lead However, two cars came to a stop on the track and brought out the caution. On the restart, Marvin Burton claimed the lead. Staggs made a pass for the lead on lap seven that was negated by another caution. Burton, Staggs, Kenny Carmichael, Jr., and Chad Evans battled for the lead on the final lap. On the last turn, Carmichael, Jr. passed Burton and Staggs for his second feature win of the year.

Last week’s winner Everett Bradham took the lead on the first lap of the B-Mod feature. Ed Roley made a pass on lap two for the lead. Cautions on laps 6 and 15 bunched up the field. Roley was able to hang on for the win and claim his first feature win of the year.

The start of the Modified feature provided some excitement as Nate Zimmer and Tyler Weiss exchanged the lead a couple of times before Weiss emerged out front. The races only caution occurred on lap four as there was debris on the track. Weiss won the race by almost a complete straightaway.

In the Hornet feature, Joey Smyser jumped out front on the first lap. A couple of cautions did not deter him. On the last lap, Mason Lynch took a brief lead before Smyser passed him back for his first feature win of the year.

Wally Kerst won his second feature of the year in the Factory Stock division by leading every lap. The battle was for second between Jesse Simmons, Steve Nolen, and Randy Smyser. Nolen had to drop out on lap 5 with a flat tire. Simmons passed Smyser on the last lap for second.
