Lauritson Wins Exciting Hornet Feature

After two consecutive rain outs, the Charleston Speedway was back in action on Saturday night. It was a hot night and storms threatened to come in from the northeast, but held off.

In the hornet feature, four drivers were battling for the lead. David Lauritson, Mason Lynch, Alex Wilson, and Eldon Hemken were putting on a show up front. Lauritson gained an advantage and pulled out front. On lap 6, Wilson was trying to go to the highside while in second, was clipped, and flipped his car twice. He was ok. After the track crews cleaned up the wreck, Lauritson maintained the lead and the race win.

The Winged Late Models provided some excitement in their race as well. Mike Staggs, Kenny Carmichael, Jr., Marvin Burton and Derrick Hufford all challenged for the lead. Hufford emerged as the lead car until lap seven, when Staggs made a slick pass to the top spot. Staggs went on to claim the feature event.

Danny Schwartz took the early lead in the Modified feature event. On lap one, Schwartz and Tyler Weiss came to the line nearly dead even. A caution ensued and is was ruled that Weiss beat Schwartz to the line and was placed in first. Weiss led the rest of the way for his second win of the season.

In the B-Mod feature, Jordan Smith and Ed Roley brought the field to the start. Smith jumped out early with Roley right behind him. Roley saw his night end with a flat tire on lap eleven. Smith led the entire way for the victory.

Jesse Simmons grabbed his second consecutive feature win in the Factory Stock division. He led every lap after taking the lead over outside pole sitter Randy Smyser.

Next week will be a regular night of racing with Modifieds, B-Mods, Winged Late Models, Factory Stocks, and Hornets running. However, action will start one hour later. Gates will open at 4:00 and the pill draw will close at 6:00. Qualifying and races will begin after that.
