Erwin, Kerst Big Winners at UMP Fall Nationals

For the 7th year in a row, the Charleston Speedway played host to the UMP Dirt Car Fall Nationals in the Stock Car division. The track also hosted the Factory Stock Fall Nationals for the first time. Joining the two classes for racing on Saturday night were Hornets and Charleston Limited Late Models.

A late afternoon drizzle was not going to deter the night of racing. It was a later start than expected, as 89 cars lined the pits of the 3/8th's oval track. The count included 38 Stock Cars and 23 Factory Stocks.

Bobby Beiler and Megan Erwin started the 40 lap feature on the front row as 22 Stock Cars got the start. Erwin jumped out to a quick lead that she would not give up. She had to fight off Beiler and Nick Macklin all race long. After a caution with five laps left, Erwin saw Macklin get to the outside and trying to pass for the lead. Erwin held off Macklin and led all 40 laps. Erwin collected $2,000 for the win. She said in the post race interview that it was the biggest win of her career.

Wally Kerst and Randy Smyser were on the front row for the 30 lap Factory Stock feature. Kerst took the lead with Smyser in pursuit. The top two remained the same for most of the race until Smyser had a flat tire that sent him to the back of the field. Kerst then had to battle with Mike Reitz and was able to hold him off for the win. In the interview with Kerst, he praised the Charleston track officials for always providing a fast track, one that he has seen a lot of success this year.

Bryce Pasley won the Hornet Feature and Blake Damery took the Charleston Limited Late Model Feature.

The Charleston Speedway would like to thank all the sponsors for making this race possible. A special thanks to Josh Griffith for his efforts to make the 7th annual Stock Car Fall Nationals a success.
